The rental market is hot right now, and its even hotter for students because so many are competing for so few houses.  So, it pays to have all your documents and references ready well in advance.

Most Landlords and Property Management companies will require the following as a minimum:-

*          ID.  Have a scanned copy of your passport, drivers licence, student ID card
*          Reliable references.  Make sure you check with your referee first and confirm their contact details
*          Some property managers may request a credit check.  Note that they must have your authorisation prior to obtaining a credit check.

In a highly competitive rental market some property managers are requesting a tenancy CV.  This can be hard if it’s your first time renting so keep it brief with bullet points and use referees that will know where you are if a landlord contacts them.  They will want to know that if you don’t pay the rent and clear out, the referee will know how to get a hold of you.

What can you put in your tenancy CV?

*          Name, DOB, contact details
*          Addresses for last 5 years
*          What you are studying and year of study (1,2,3, masters etc)
*          Any previous renting history(if any)
*          Your current work details (if any) If not then a short sentence on how you budget for the rent
*          Names and contact details of referees
*          Name and contact details of your next of kin
